I cant remember wich battle it was exactly but this happened in reality, UK boats were trying to destroy the biggest German war U-boat.. the battle is a long story but eventually the german U-boat lost stearing control and it was doomed to be destroyed. It had tried to destroy the UK boats before but now the U-boat sank and there were about 900 german soldiers in the water. The UK boats tried to rescue them and take them as hostage but they got an emergency call to retreive and they could only rescue 100 germans. The UK soldiers still have nightmares of the germans they had to leave behind in the water to die, and these people were not even religious. The fact that the child is also human gives me no moral obligation. Why should it? If I have a moral obligation to help others because they are of my species, do I have the moral right to expect help from strangers? If the obligation is based solely on our mutual humanity, must I help Nazis and KKK members when they need help? Must I help those who seek to destroy me?
You must not help them, but I think a part of moral means placing yourself in the others position, imagine how you would feel if you were in theirs place.. if you have the ability to feel that, you would rescue them, you also know that once you rescued them they are not in the position to kill you.
