I think the article I refered you to aptly explains some of the (at least I think they are) deviant practices among "sufi" Muslims.

I don't understand those who call themselves "sufi". It is a word that is not mentioned in the Qur'an, and as far as I know, not even in the ahadith. What's wrong with just being a Muslim?

Perhaps it would be easier for people to comment if you explained what you mean by 'sufism stuff'.

I don't know if this is true or not, but hopefully you can correct me Insha'Allah. One of my teacher's went to a talk in Birmingham. The man who was giving the lecture I think she said he was a Sufi. Basically he said that when sufi's reach the highest point of Ibadah...meaning when they worship Allah (s.w.t) day and night for a period of time. He said that they become superior, so they don't have to pray salah or do any Nafl Ibadah. Astagfirullah, ofcourse this is not right to believe or say. But I would just like to know is this what Sufi's believe?

    Assalam o Alaikum

Dear sister in Islam, I don't know much about this belief of the sufis.... In fact I am in regular contact of some of the sufis since last 20+ years but never heard any sich claim.. Its true that they sometime don't offer their prayer but never claimed that.

I just wanted to share an inetresting incident here. Few days back I had a stone in my left kidney and that was extremely painful. I suffered that for one week and believe me that the pain was killing. One Doctor Advised me that its better to consult any homeo doctor..... strange behaviour from him

Another Doctor, told me very clearly that u have only 2 options..... operation and Lythotrypsy ( using laser rays )

Then I went to such a sufi. he recite something and then gave me some water to drink.... Can you believe that i was perfectly fine within next 30 minutes. No Operation, no medicine and its been more than 20 days now..... I am perfectly fine..... How can I use and bad word for that Sufi ????

    Walaykum Salaam.

Subhan'Allah, I'm quite suprised of your experience. Alhamdulilah, thanks to Allah who gave you your good health back

Maybe there are different types of Sufi's, some of them might be at an extreme level...Allah knows best!

    assalaam o alaikum

to be a sufi is not necessary for such things, this chapter is too lenghty so could not cover here. In brief, every word has some specific power, some person activate this power through a specific way and then use it for such kind of cases.

sufism, is a way of life. Every religion has some persons that could be called sufi, for example in Muslims they called sufi or derwaish or peerr, in Christian they called Raahib, in Hinduism they called Rishi muni or prohit so and so. Their statement is keep away from colors of life, spend you life with minimum needs, spend your time in "Iba'dat", life is nothing so try to make good your eternal life.

But there are very very few persons that could be a picture of as mentioned above, most of the sufies are cheaters.

you should of gone to your lord and sincerely asked him to relieve you of your problems rather than ask a sufi. There is no sufi/saint in islam according to this website

Besides, the people whom are holy in Islam are the Prophets because they were ordained so by the Lord. On whose authority is the status of "holy" bestowed on these "holy men" and saints whom supposedly have special access to God? This concept is alien to Islam. There are no saints, no "holy men," nothing of the sorts. God hears our prayers and forgives us as He pleases.

Do they not know that God accepts the repentance of His servants and takes their alms, and that God is the Forgiving One, the Merciful? (Al Tawbah 9:104)

Say: "O my Servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah: for Allah forgives all sins: for He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Al Zumar 39:53)

And He it is Who accepts repentance from His slaves, and forgives sins, and He knows what you do. (Al Shura 42:25)

So glorify the Praises of your Lord, and ask for His Forgiveness. Verily, He is the One Who accepts the repentance and forgives. (Al Nasr 110:3)

If God accepts the repentance of His servants what is left for these saints to do? I therefore, completely agree with you that the Qur'an is absolutely explicit that we need no intermediaries. Muslims do not need saints or holy men; we have Allah (swt) the Infinitely Merciful, Eternally Compassionate.

I hope I have clarified the issue.

    God knows best.

Many Christian preachers and "Hindu holy men" cure people in a similar manner. I think it is something in the mind of the beholder that makes such things happen and not any "saint" or preacher.

    Salaam sister,

I don't think the statement by this lecturer is representative of sufis in general. From everything I've read, they believe in and practice salat, as well as the other 4 pillars. I haven't come across any such teaching as you've mentioned here, although some individuals may very well believe that.

    Salaam Muhtadiyah.

I think she is talking about pakistani sufis. You dont want to know them, i have heard it from them, as long as you do "zikr" you dont have to pray salaah. Too much mysticism not enough practicality.

    Salaam br. Haroon,

Is that an official part of their creed, or just a popular misconception?
