The Koran says that there are seven skies/heavens/firmanents, and the lowest one contains the stars. Imagine that! All these vast clusters of galaxies (very little of which, I am certain, scientists really know anything about, or even how many of them there are) are just the first of seven layers of the universe, and each one dwarfs the previous one. What a wonderous creation Allah has made!

Are you talking about the "heat of fire and flash of brass" in Surah 55? I'm a newbie at the religion and as such don't always know what I'm talking about, but I assume that those are the kinds of things that Allah will conjure and hurl at us if we try to get too far, wrath of God type stuff. In fact, aren't the djinni said in Surah 72 to have run into guards of some sort when they traveled too far into space? I've always wondered what that meant. If they are angels, then I imagine that they exist in outer space no more (or no more importantly, at least) than around us.

If you are referring to seven skies layers, then it is already discovered! Correct me if i am wrong but the seven layers are:-
    1)Trophosphere
    2)Tropopause
    3)Stratophere
    4)Stratopause
    5)Mesosphere
    6)Mesopause
    7)Thermosphere
Not sure whether the -pause layer is actually a layer but those are considered as transition zone.

    Syedh

    Take note of this

The Koran says that there are seven skies/heavens/firmanents, and the lowest one contains the stars.
The atmosphere does not contain stars. The reference to the layers of the atmosphere is not correct.

Dr. Tariq Al Swaidan discovered some verses in the Holy Quran that mention
one thing is equal to another,
i.e, man is equal to women.
Although this makes sense grammatically, the astonishing fact is that the
number of times the word man appears in the Quran is 24 and number of times
the word woman appears is also 24,therefore not only is
this phrase correct in the grammatical sense but also true mathematically
    24=24.

Upon further analysis of various verses, he discovered that this is
    consistent throughout the whole Quran,
where it says one thing is like another. See below for astonishing
    results:-

The word number of times mentioned in Arabic Quran:

Dunia (one name for life) 115 . Aakhirat (one name for the life after) 115
    Malaikat (Angels) 88 . Shaytan (Satan) 88
    Life 145 . Death 145
    Ben! efit 50 . Corrupt 50
    People 50 . Messengers 50
Eblees (king of devils) 11 . Seek refuge from Eblees 11
    Museebah (calamity) 75 . Thanks 75
    Spending (Sadaqah) 73 . Satisfaction 73
People who are mislead 17 . Dead people 17
    Muslimeen 41 . Jihad 41
    Gold 8 . Easy life 8
    Magic 60 . Fitnah (dissuasion, misleading) 60
Zakat(Taxes Muslims pay to the pooor) 32 .Barakah (Increasing or blessings
    of wealth) 32
    Mind 49 . Noor 49
    Tongue 25 . Sermon 25
    Desite 8 . Fear 8
    Speaking publicly 18 . Publicising 18
    Hardship 114 . Patience 114
    Muhammed 4 . Sharee*ah (Muhammed's teachings) 4
    Man 24 . Women 24

And amazingly enough have a look how many times the following words
    appear:-
    Solat 5, Month 12, Day 365, Sea 32, Land 13
    Sea + land = 32+13= 45
    % Sea=32/45*100=71.11111111
    % Land=13/45*100= 28.88888889
    =100.00

Modern science has only recently proven that the water covers 71.111% of
the earth, while the land ! covers
    28.889%.

    salaam,

great bringing up of that verse reffering to the seven heavens.

this can be taken in to many differnet accounts for the ayat is mysterious.

the atmosphere notion is valid. harun yahya answers his findings. i believe the exosphere is one of the layers not the -pause one.

seven heavens could be literal meaning of actual seven heavens with Allah being in the 7th heaven .

or it could mean 7 universes.

    Only Allah knows.

    salaam

    Assalaam all,

Let's not forget that in Semitic languages 7 often means several as well,so we could be dealing with a large number.

I also notice that people like to play with numbers and the Holy Qur'an,
like Rashid Khalifa did, then he went astray and claimed to be a prophet or something.

    Wasalaam.
