Sometimes we forget the importance of the simple yet powerful du'a or supplication--ISTIGHFAR--ie saying/reciting "ASTAGHFIRULLAH" ( I seek forgiveness of Allah). The Ulama of the Muslim Community (the Ummah) teach us that ISTIGHFAR has certain virtues, including but not limited to:--
1. Istighfar removes anxiety and du'as are answered.
2. It opens the door of sustenance.
3. It opens the door of Mercy and Knowledge.
4. Reciting Istighfar helps us to calm ourselves and wipes out variety of worldly worries from our mind/body.
Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless and greet him, said:--
"IF ANYONE CONSTANTLY SEEKS PARDON (from Allah), ALLAH WILL APPOINT FOR HIM
A WAY OUT OF EVERY DISTRESS AND A RELIEF FROM EVERY ANXIETY, AND WILL PROVIDE
SUSTENANCE FOR HIM FROM WHERE HE EXPECTS NOT". [Abu Dawud]... Indeed!! consider this Hadith with the Ayat below, where Allah, Most High,
".....SEEK THE FORGIVENESS OF YOUR LORD, AND TURN TO HIM IN REPENTANCE,
THAT HE MAY GRANT YOU GOOD ENJOYMENT, FOR A TERM APPOINTED....." (Surat Hud-11:3)
We should include lots of ISTIGHFAR in our daily Zikr, when we come to Remember Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, mornings and evenings.
