Default Are the brotherhood a cult?

They seem to cause alot of hassle in the media so I like to know if they are real Muslims or a cult group who just follow a leader without scripture support? (or at least take verse out of context to support there stuff)

The Brotherhood's stated goal is to instill the Qur'an and Sunnah as the "sole reference point for ...ordering the life of the Muslim family, individual, community ... and state". The movement officially opposes violent means to achieve its goals, although it at one time encompassed a paramilitary wing and its members were involved in massacres, bombings and assassinations of political opponents; notably Egyptian Prime Minister Mahmoud an-Nukrashi Pasha and the movement's own founder Hassan al-Banna.[4][5] The movement has been criticized by al-Qaeda for its support for democratic elections rather than armed jihad.

The Muslim Brotherhood started off as a religious social organization, preaching Islam, teaching the illiterate, setting up hospitals and even launching commercial enterprises. Many Egyptian nationalists accuse the MB of violent killings during this period.[7] After the Arab defeat in the First Arab-Israeli war, the Egyptian government dissolved the organisation and arrested its members.[6] It supported the Egyptian Revolution of 1952, but after an attempted assassination of Egypt's president it was once again banned and repressed.[8] The MB has been suppressed in other countries as well, most notably in Syria in 1982 during the Hama massacre.[9]

One can draw conculsions after reading the above.

It's hard to tell though.. I'll have to watch that docomentry again (muslim brotherhood) I didn't watch it all cause I had a feeling it was anti-Islam (plus a guy holding the Turkist flag which has nothing to do with Islam)*

Islamically every sect, group and school is wrong, so they fall in that category. And Muslim brotherhood is a mixture of different ideologies. They are spread all over the world. So it would be hard to directly pinpoint their exact beliefs.

they are not a cult, they are a faction from among the Muslims, a political faction, and as observed by some ulema, a firqa (sect) due to inoovated methodologies.

“The bonds of Islam will be broken one by one. Every time a bond is undone, the people will cling to the bond that follows. The first of these bonds is rulership (khilaafa) and the last is the prayer (salah).” Reported by Ahmad and Tabarani. Al-Hakim stated that the chain is authentic.
