Default Is Mohammed Merah a hero?

What do Muslims on this forum think?

Wouldn't it be similar to us celebrating what Bales did in Afghaniztan?

There was a facebook page paying tribute to Mohammed Merah that has been taken down.

French police stop march in memory of Toulouse killer

(AGI) Toulouse - Police in France prevented a group of people from holding a demonstration in memory of the Toulouse killer.
This afternoon, some one hundred riot police officers intervened to disperse about thirty people who were trying to hold a demonstration in memory of Mohammed Merah, the man behind a series of shootings in Toulouse who was killed by the police two days ago after an over 32-hour siege. Most of the demonstrators were burqa-clad young women. Wearing the full-body burqa veil in public is illegal in France. . .

'French teacher asked minute's silence for Merah'

French education minister calls for English teacher's suspension after she called Toulouse killer a "victim."
    By REUTERS/France 2 Television

France's education minister called for disciplinary proceedings against a teacher in the north of France on Friday, after she allegedly asked her students to observe a moment's silence for serial killer Mohamed Merah, the man who gunned down three children and a rabbi in front of Jewish school in Toulouse earlier this week.

Students in the the French English teacher's class in Rouen wrote to their principal that she had called the serial killer a "victim," and said his links to al-Qaida were fabricated by the media and French President Nicolas Sarkozy, according to AFP.

The teacher's request prompted most of the students to empty out of the classroom, though some stayed behind to "try to understand what she was talking about," AFP reported according to their letter.

French Education Minister Luc Chatel has called for the teacher to be suspended for her request, which was made the day after police shot Merah dead in the south of France after he went on a killing spree.

On Thursday, France's Le Monde newspaper reported that Merah, who killed three soldiers and four Jews in France in the last two weeks, had been on a trip to Israel in the past.

According to the report, Merah's passport had Israeli stamps in it. The purpose of his visit is not known, but analysts suspect he was either trying to visit the Palestinian territories or do reconnaissance to plan a terror attack.

The Jerusalem Post could not confirm the veracity of this report.

Based on the stamps in his passports, Merah also visited Syria, Iraq, Jordan and Afghanistan.

The 23-year-old gunman who said al-Qaida inspired him to kill seven people in France died from a gunshot wound to the head on Thursday as he scrambled out of a ground-floor window during a gunbattle with elite police commandos.

Sarkozy called Merah's killings terrorist attacks and announced a crackdown on people following extremist websites.

"From now on, any person who habitually consults websites that advocate terrorism or that call for hate and violence will be punished," he said in a statement. "France will not tolerate ideological indoctrination on its soil."

Opinions and actions of individuals do not portray what the religion stands for. Killing of any innocent person is prohibited by Islam. Whatever the religion. In Islam the killing of a human being can only be undertaken if he is guilty of deliberate murder or anarchy. This by the State and not individual. This is the ruling of Quran and that remains unchallenged. Any other view can be a personal opinion but will not reflect what Islam the religion stands for.

Yes those are very vague verses. How do you measure mischief in the land? Also I can see Muslims saying that was ordained for the Children of Israel. Where is it ordained for Muslims?

I have heard an imam preach that all non-muslims are guilty and in no way innocent.

005.032 On that account: We ordained for the Children of Israel that if any one slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people. Then although there came to them Our messengers with clear signs, yet, even after that, many of them continued to commit excesses in the land.

    Did he kill Muslims?
004.093 If a man kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell, to abide therein (For ever): And the wrath and the curse of Allah are upon him, and a dreadful penalty is prepared for him.

the OP itself is insulting in that it assumes Muslims to be lesser than human beings who would condone indiscriminate killing of others. If this is all you have to offer, there is no point trying to understand Islam..

Quran has not quoted the ultimate punishment i.e. death penalty for any other crime. Anarchy includes those acts that put the safety and honor of people at risk like revolt, robbery etc. Quran remains the Divine Scripture and where it quotes something without offering an alternative that remains the law for Muslims and is the Shariah for Muslims. In contrast the punishment for apostatsy is not discussed in Quran.

If you notice the articles about Mohammad Merah there are Muslims praising this man.

Did I miss the explanation? Has anyone on this forum defined mischief and how much warrants death? And how do you know- where is it defined in the Quran?

DocW are you a quran only Muslim?

    Hi Patrick,

Irrespective of how mischief is defined, as the good Doc said, only the Islamic State has authority to carry out capital punishment as per Shariah. That is a fact which no one can change, so if any individual or group acting on their own commit murder, they have committed the worst possible crime as per Islamic Shariah (murder of one innocent equates to murder of all humanity, as per Shariah).

I do not understand the desperate need so many have to pin blame on the religion, when it is quite clear that these actions are taken by individuals and groups more often than not for political / revenge ends.

Whether punishment carried out by individuals or some authority wouldn't it be helpful to people to know what the limits are?

    It all seems so vaque.

The thing is Patrick, the religion is finite and clear. However opinions are not. And to add to that, people will always find an excuse to do what they want to do. The religion, if studied and followed, inspires righteousness and general welfare, but both studying and following required hard work and an honest disposition. When our entire modern society is founded on debt and greed, people just do whatever their desires, passions or anger leads them to.

Think man. Does the Gospel condone any type of violence? The Quran does. In fact yes the Quran is very clear about when to retaliate, seek revenge.

Did any one hear of/see Christians saying he was a hero, praise what he did? Please reference.

where? Dont post verses which have already been discussed and explained to you - in fact you are guilty of repeatedly making false attributions about the Quran and the Prophet. If something is amiss, you can ask or open a thread, but what you're saying above is only your belief which others do not share.

So now are you saying those verses are not clear as to when to seek revenge, subdue and kill?

in fact they are not about revenge, subjugation or murder at all - I thought you would have grasped that..
