Both the OT and the NT talk about “Father” God.
John 4:
23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when
the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth;
for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.
24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
For your worship to be acceptable to God, it must satisfy these 2 requirements.
This is in accordance with His desire, His plan, His will.
True worship must be done “in spirit and truth”.
What does worship the Father IN SPIRIT mean?
When a person is “born again” from above (John 3:3, 1 Peter 1:23, 2 Cor. 5:17),
it means that the person is born of the Holy Spirit. And when this happens,
the Holy Spirit comes INSIDE the person …
“And I will pray (to) the Father, and He will give you another* Helper,
that He may abide with you forever -- the Spirit of truth …
… you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be IN you.
… And We will come to him and make Our home with him.” (John 14:16-23)
Also see Romans 8:11; 1 Corin. 3:16; Galatians 4:6; 1 Timothy 1:14; 1 John 3:24, 4:12-16.
These people are able to commune with (and worship) God anywhere “through the Spirit”.
* The Greek word here for “another” is “allos” meaning “another of the same kind”.
What does worship the Father IN TRUTH mean?
Truth is what is in harmony with the nature and will of God.
So, if you don’t have God’s truth, you can’t worship “in truth”.
But, most people don’t have God’s truth …
John 8:
45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me.
46 … if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me?
47 He who is of God hears God’s words;
therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.”
The good news is worthwhile worship is attainable.
