Say: If it be that your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your mates, or your kindred; the wealth that ye have gained; the commerce in which ye fear a decline: or the dwellings in which ye delight - are dearer to you than Allah, or His Messenger, or the striving in His cause;- then wait until Allah brings about His decision: and Allah guides not the rebellious.

004.135
O ye who believe! stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even as against yourselves, or your ]parents[/COLOR], or your kin, and whether it be (against) rich or poor: for Allah can best protect both. Follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest ye swerve, and if ye distort (justice) or decline to do justice, verily Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do.

9:24 mentions all relations barring mother. Uses the word Aabaookum in contrast 4:135 walidayain. Why mother not mentioned in 9:24

Salaam alaikum,

actually 9:24 has a much wider application than 4:135. 4:135 talks about the WALIDAYN= the two parents who gave birth to us. 9:24 talks about the ABAA= fathers. This term encompasses the parents as well as the grandparents and great grandparents and their parents and so on and it encompasses the males and females.

Many thanks bro Hussein for your comprehensive post.

Response from AR Al-Mawrid scholar

The verse 9:24 is about treatment of Kuffar and Jihad even it is against your own people. Since it was mostly the fathers or sons who would have to go against each other in the conflict therefore the verse mentions fathers. We can conclue from this that if mothers were also active in going against the belief of their son then moters will be naturally included.

Verse 4:135 is a general verse about being just that equally applies to being just even it is against your own mother or father.
