I happen to enjoy the recitation of the Quran in many examples.

What made you cry? Was it the reflection upon God's words or the the mystical ecstasy that you derived from the voice of the speaker.

SubhanALLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH. That was beautiful Faithful!
This made me cry
that is really so hard to understand, it must be all sentiments. Personally I have really negative sentiments hearing just the typical melody of reciting, without even knowing what it says.

Yes I can understand that.
It all depends on your perspective.
I find the recitation of the Quran to be very soothing, as well, I love listening to buddhist and greogorian chants.
MF have you heard gregorian chants?
IMO they are beautiful.
Here are some gregorian chants.

I agree with the priest when he says it reaches to the very soul (deepest part) of us.

As europe turns secular, it loses a great part of what made her a beacon of light to the world.
There was much evil in the way europe practiced religion, but much good came of it too.

The video is great but Sheikh Al 'Afasy tends to sing the words too much. I like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gl23QLd5nqs)one...now if only we can switch the videos :)

Attached is one of the best recitations of Mishary of Al Fatiha. SubhanAllah.
I think there is a generational and style gap. I can't explain it and I don't mean to be harsh but a nice voice isn't the only thing that does it for me. There are rules to be followed. In fact, if I were inclined to listening to beautiful voices I can easily access the many blessed people out there. However, in the recitation itself there is a distinction between recitation and singing. While this may be harder to perceive by many it is very, very clear to me. Mishary is the new school, I guess. There are newer reciters that recite in the way I like. In the end it's tastes and preferences so in the end the most important thing is to understand what is being said that way the pleasure is two-fold.

I understand! But.. I know it's a tough question: do you think that he is reciting wrongly? Is he applying the rules of Tajweed while he is doing that?
Also, if you don't mind can you give us your favorite recitors? ^_^
But he's still pretty baller :) MashaAllah

I guess we are Mishary's defenders :p
