Muslims usually interpret the verse from sura Saf as Jesus literally predicting the name of the prophet that would come after him. What would be the equivalent of that Arabic name in Jesus' tongue? Also it could cause confusion since anyone using that name could claim to fulfill the prophecy.
Almost all if not all Arabic names have a meaning. "Ahmad" is a superrlative of hamd (to praise) and means worthy of praise/much revered. I believe the prophet Jesus is simply stating in that verse that the name of the prophet that would come after him will be worthy of praise/much revered. The final prophet fulfills this prophecy everyday and anyone can objectively witness it.
"wamubashiran birasulin ya'ti min baadi ismuhu ahmadu"
"and giving the good news of a rasul after me whose name shall be worthy of praise/much revered"

But the Quran says litteray "ismuhu Ahmad" that can only be translated to "whose name shall be Ahmad"...
But you know it's an interesting observation, the name of the prophet (pbuh) is actually Muhammad not Ahmad. (I know they have the same root and the prophet was called Ahmad too).

As i said
Quran mentioned other names and they are specific to these people, or Prophets, should we apply the same rule there too ?

Sumuqe made a point... in my understanding, the name IS Ahmad indeed, not the meaning of the name itself.. I can be wrong ofcourse.

In surah Maryam, Allah says:
O Zacharias, We give thee good news of a boy, whose name is John
It is the same form as when Jesus makes the prophecy regarding Ahmed. Ahmed was an actual name of the Prophet (S) and he was known by both.

We share the same opinion.
So you confirm for me that the name of the prophet (pbuh) was Ahmad too right?

if someone were to object and say that Allah mentioned one of yahya's attributes which was hanan
,"wa hananan min ladunna... " ,but for the name Ahmad an attribute was not mentioned or linked to it.what is the response to this?

Wa salaam,
An attribute may be qualified to a name for a particular reason in one instance and in another, an attribute may not even be used. It really depends on the context. In cases where John's qualities are mentioned, it seems to high-light certain aspect of his personality in relation to the overall thrust of the message, which included the fact that ALlah blessed Prophet Zechariah with such a personality, despite the overall corruption in the priestly line of Israel.
It's an interesting coincidence that the Prophet's (pbuh) birth name was actually Ahmad.

Exactly, and it is a fact most Muslims are not really aware of. Muhammad was his other name.

quran makes a habit of using 2 names to refer to the same item. for example, mecca is called bukka sometimes.

But in this verse, the Quran doesn't say that his name is hanaan, so in this case the attribute itself is what was mentionned.

So Ahmad is the real name. I knew that the prophet had others names which are attributes also (like Sadiq/Amine...) but I thought that the real name is Muhammad... Intersesting.
But the Quran aslo mentionned the name of Muhammad (pbuh) many times, so i'm wondering why the choice of the name Ahmad was mentionned in that verse exactly.
His birth name was Ahmad (pbuh) and his nickname was Muhammad.
