View Full Version : World Issues?

Poll for all members;

Regarding recent and ongoing events in the world today, there have been some opinions of an added section or subforum; a section for world issues. What do you think?

Many issues in the world today are not specifically about islam, although the events concern mostly muslims. For instance; the situation in the middle east, the coming elections in Iraq, the elections in Palestine, not to mention the recent devastation by the December tsunami, just to mention a few examples. Further, there have been discussions about forms of government, state legislation, the still ongoing Khilafah debates, views on the current policies of governments, conflicts, heads of state, matters and issues that are not Islam specific, although they are important for muslims all around the affected regions, and why not the world. As a suggestion; why not create a new section on the forum where these matters could be discussed and pondered upon, much since these are, after all, important topics. To have a section devoted to these issues of the world could further make the forum easier to navigate, all topics of the same kind being collected in one section. So, what do you think?

Please take part in the poll to express your views.

Peace Ratatosk

Just to add confusion to your poll :D

Maybe ask a more open question, Are there ideas for other sections in the forum?

My two cents worth would be a section on morality and another on philosophy, and another for political and world events.

Peace, Eric H.

Maybe ask a more open question, Are there ideas for other sections in the forum?

Thank you for your input. Every member is entitled to express wishes, questions and suggestions about anything regarding the forum. The idea is solely due to the fact that many topics recently discussed fall, more or less, under the moniker of 'World Issues'.

My two cents worth would be a section on morality and another on philosophy, and another for political and world events.

This being a islamic forum, morality and philosophy issues are based upon the teachings in the noble Qur'an, and thus these topics are - in the setting of an islamic forum - de facto about Islam. For a more thorough and in-depth discussion about, for instance, the history of philosophy and the evolution of schools of thought, I'd say it is a bit outside this forum. You could opt for posting a thread, though. I believe the esteemed forum members would be more than happy to participate. Interesting views, though. Thanks for sharing them.

Just to enlighten a perspective of a Khilafa system with the use if this poll as an example; is that this Poll entails a democratic perspective where the final outcome will still be in the hands of the administrators...albeit in the interest to all an sundry with a possible or yet to be manifested communal well being in mind..

Salaam,

why isn;t the general converstaion section sufficent?

Thank you for your input, sheik. Indeed, the GC section could be a place to vent issues that concern many people. However, happy birthday wishes or 'I am on vacation' announcements are perhaps not topics of fiery interest to the general populace. A quick scroll through the threads in the General Conversation section reveals that the section is manifestly not sufficient.

Thank you for your input, hasan. Good points, the poll was created to probe the general stance of the community, to see if there would be a massive uproar against a new section. Naturally, any and all large changes in the forum are in the end up to the administration. An anarcistic forum, where anyone can do as they please, could quickly become a battleground. However, the idea behind a new section is merely one of convenience, since these topics are already being discussed, in whatever section. If that convenience is never wanted by anybody, then it's another issue.

Hello Ratatosk,

Salaam,

Power is the aphrodisiac of life, use that power, walk on the wild side, make an executive decision, spit into the wind and get your own back, :D he who dares wins but ask your mother first and make sure you are wearing a clean shirt when you ask her.

I have now cast my vote and said yes why not, I want to be on the side that has the decisive victory.

Salaam,

Thank you for you input, Roswell. The idea was that since the GC section has settled on being mainly for, well, 'general' issues, such as the mentioned happy b-day wishes, "the world's highest mosque", "cats; I love em" and general chat, the proposed section would be a 'collection point' for worldly issues that could be of interest to a larger populace. That said, if you have ideas that could enhance the forum, please post any that you come to think of, however strange or surreal the idea might seem to you.

Salaam,

As you may have noticed, the new section is now open for posting. I'm curious as to how it will evolve.
