You must spread some reputation around before...

You guys know the story. You give out some reputation to somebody and then you have to wait a gazillion years before you can give it to them again.

A question: How much reputation do we currently have to spread around before being able to give it to the same person again?

It it possible for the admins to lower the amount of reputation that we have to spread around to something more reasonable?

I think it does not let you give reps till you get more reps yourself. I don't think it has much to do with spreading reps.

Actually, it has everything to do with spreading Reputation around. If I'm correct about this under vBulletin Options there's User Reputation Options. And under that you have Reputation User Spread where you can change the amount of reputation you have to spread before being able to give it to the same person again.

On another forum, they lowered the amount of reps you have to spread around. You just had to give some reps to one other person before being able to give it to the previous person again.

For that reason, I'm pretty sure the admins can tweak this. :)

Okay, I (somewhat reluctantly, I must admit) lowered it to 5 per your request. In short, you must spread love to five other users before handing out reddies or greenies to the same unfortunate/lucky fellow/ess a'gin. K? T'was 7 previously. I don't really want to set it any lower than that. For the obvious reasons.

I think 5 is a balance of reasonableness and protection from abuse of the rep system.
