Salam Allaikum
i have been doing some research concerning the issue and i dont know who to ask this question to, well i do but i cant ask it because such as this world happens to be, accessible dispensers of advice as men. Authorised ones anyway. But that is not my point. My point is this.
Nowhere in the Qu'ran does it say a women's prayers and fast are invalidated by mens'.
There is a hadith: 'Isn't it true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses?'
HOWEVER, if not even the Qu'ran, the WORD of ALLAH mentions such a point, how can the Prophet (Sws) simply decide it as such?
"Isn't it true"- but where does it say it is true that they cannot pray or fast? What right does afterall, with all due respect, the Prophet/Messenger of Allah have to decide whose prayers and fasts are accepted when it is not even mentioned by Allah?

Please Analyze Your Argument in the light of following:-
An event that took place in the life of Prophet Muhammad(PBUH). There happened a dispute between a Munafiq (One who pretends to be a Muslim) and a jew. The decision was likely to go in favour of the jew owing to some reasons not known. So the Munafiq, took the case to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) for a decision. The Prophet (PBUH) disposed off the case in favour of the jew, the Munafiq, not satisfied being at the losing end, went to Hazrat Umar (RAu) because he was very harsh on non muslims and represented the entire case, and told him the decision Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had given. After confirming the decision, Hazrat Umar (RAu) took out his sword and beheaded the Munafiq saying that "the one who doubts the validity of Muhammad's (PBUH) decision doesn't deserve to live" (or words to that effect).
/* "Isn't it true"- but where does it say it is true that they cannot pray or fast? What right does afterall, with all due respect, the Prophet/Messenger of Allah have to decide whose prayers and fasts are accepted when it is not even mentioned by Allah?" */
Had the Prophet (PBUH) not told us these basics how would have we come to know that what should we do in order to get our prayers accepted by Allah SWT.
"Free minds and progressive muslims" have raised other useless arguments over this forum, you are not new. And this argument is also not new, this is the first point which most of the feminists raise while initializing themselves for a drive against Islamic Values.
Take a timeout, and think with a cool mind. you will find that Islam minus Muhammad(PBUH) is equal to zero.

I understand the importance of the Prophet (SWS) and the great impact of his Sunnah. However, things like Salat like you mention were first spoken of in the Qu'ran, but things like menstruation are not. And this idea of looking at not being allowed to pray etc. is NOT even mentioned in the Qu'ran while other details are. And Allah says in the QU'ran that whoever prays to Him and asks for His forgiveness wil be dealt with, so what right does anyone else have to say that one's prayers/fasts are invalidated?
I don't see myself as feminist and i dont appreciate being called one just because i hold a different view or ask questions. And the fact is that the Prophet (sws) seems to have made no injunction what-so-ever regarding fasts and prayers against menstruating women. It was simply assumed. How does that work? I don't think it does. But who am i right? I will tell you. I am a believing woman who has faith in Allah and obeys only Allah's command. There has been no command not to pray/fast while mentruating not even by the Prophet (sws). This is how i see it.
Peace.

The instructions of The Prophet ARE to be followed in true letter and spirit. For a muslim to be a believer it is MUST that he/she follows The Holy Prophet (PBUH), and not only Allah SWT. If I say this, the next argument I expect from you is that where in Quran Allah SWT told us to say Salaat. Because people from your group who think that they follow Islam completely by following Quran Only, regard everything instructed by Prophet (PBUH) as Shirk.
So if you dont accord Muhammad (PBUH) his due place in the religion, it will be a useless argument because you will not accept anything any reason from me like a good free mind.
Just to update you, the lives of Sahaba e Kiraam (RAm) are an example for us who were taught to practice Islam by Muhammad (PBUH) himself. The Sunnah and Ahadith which are not so useless and not so unreliable have been recorded and conveyed to us in their true form by them just as the Holy Quran was brought to us so secure by the same personnel. I think dismissing their all services by claiming to follow Quran Only, for no good reason is a little bit too much and we must refrain from it. So should I expect another sizzling argument from you?

Just as a food for thought....
I have yet to see a true believer who claims that he/she is a believer, Faith my sister is something which the posesser never reveals, instead at every point of time he/she thinks that he is the biggest sinner of all times and prays forgiveness of the Almighty, Most High. I suggest you be careful in choice of your words, because if you dont know, and The Prophet (PBUH) HAS stated such a thing, then that means that you are stating a falsehood to the Holy Prophet (PBUH). So common sense demands to use soft language in matters pertaining to Allah SWT and Muhammad (PBUH)
