sucks. tear it down. i know of an entire country of people who could have benefited from the resources that went into making the mosque. i am getting more and more disgusted with mega mosques made by interior designers and what have you.

Salaam sister Endy

Are you an interior designer or architect by nature or profession?

A good examlple would be Pakistan, another Muslim country which is in dire need of aid at this moment. And I don't know why, but these people who made these giant palaces like Mosques forget that they should do exactly the same efforts to bring people to worship in it, most of the time I think Mosques like these remain empty !

So what is next? These "Muslims" should also consider construction of monuments of idols because as far as I believe this is not something the One God would have wanted them to do with so much resources.

I've seen worse ways of using money.

One thing I would fault them on is the use of the flowery designs? What about some Islamic art? What about geometric or calligraphy?
I understand that they want to go for something that makes it look more like "life", but is "life" in a mosque, better symbolized by plants or by the praise of God by those who believe?

I believe there was just an announcement regarding oil reserves in Northern Afghanistan.
